Capstone Week 1 Discussion

Note: Before beginning this Discussion, be sure to familiarize yourself with and begin reflecting on this week’s Project Assignment.

Collegial discourse—sharing with others in your field—offers a chance to gain from the thinking of other people who have similar goals and experiences. In this week’s Project Assignment, you reflect on the coursework you have completed in the bachelor of science in child development program, the things you learned, and opportunities you are looking for in the field. Consider this Discussion as an opportunity not only to share your thoughts on these topics but also to expand your awareness in an effort to synthesize what you have learned and apply it to your career plan and goals for a professional contribution.

Post:

  • Three key lessons, insights, and/or points of wisdom that you have gleaned from this program related to theories of child development, effective practices for working with children and/or adolescents, and/or current research, issues, and trends in the field of child and/or adolescent development (cite specific courses).
  • Three key lessons, insights, and/or points of wisdom you have learned about yourself related to how you view your professional future and/or your role in the field.

By Sunday:

Read a selection of your colleagues’ postings. As you read their responses, note those to which you would like to respond with advice, questions, comments, and/or encouragement.

Respond to at least two of your colleagues’ postings in any of the following ways:

  • Build on something your colleague said.
  • Explain why and how you see things differently.
  • Ask a probing or clarifying question.
  • Share an insight from having read your colleague’s posting.
  • Offer and support an opinion.
  • Validate an idea with your own experience.
  • Expand on your colleague’s posting.
  • Ask for evidence that supports the posting.

Return to this Discussion in a few days to read the responses to your initial posting. Consider what you have learned and/or any insights you have gained as a result of the comments your colleagues made.
