Environment and tourism

Responsible tourism, also called eco-tourism, is an important topic of the current

tourism industry and can promote the development of tourism, and the main focus of

this topic is to protect nature. Protecting nature is not limited to protecting the current

natural environment. It also includes protecting natural animals and reducing pollution.

At present, humans have made some contributions to nature protection. For example,

the notorious ozone hole over Antarctica has been found to be restored; the plastic ban

is restricting plastic pollution; scientists are looking for ways to restore dying coral reefs;

for sustainability and consumption The science designed by people; communities are

developing to include green alternatives; animals and plants are disappearing from the

endangered list. The above are just a few of the contributions of human beings to nature

protection. These contributions were originally the result of human beings’ lack of

attention to nature. Human beings began to attach importance to nature protection for

their own homes. Similarly, the tourism industry is paying more and more attention to

nature protection. While the tourism industry is developing, the protection of the natural

environment is realized through the enterprise’s own behavior. For example, packaging

can be recycled to reduce pollution and so on.

In the case of Glengoyne, Glengoyne distillery has an awareness of nature

conservation. The first is the environment. In terms of environment, Glengoyne distillery

has established its wetland. The function of the wetland is to store water, regulate river

flow, regulate groundwater and maintain regional water balance. Glengoyne distillery

reduces waste by 25% through wetlands. Due to the existence of wetlands, it also

provides support for local production and living resources, and biological diversity will

increase due to wetlands. The second is the beehive. The winery has two beehives,

which can contribute to the local plant and animal life. The brewery also cooperates with

plan bee, which rents beehives to enterprises in Scotland to help restore the bee

population. Finally, resources. The brewery uses 100% renewable resources and

reduces the consumption of natural resources by treating solid waste in the production

process. The waste draft and pot ale from one mash create 150 days of heat or 225

days of electricity for a house. Not only does Glengoyne distillery have an awareness of

nature conservation, but all over the world.

South Carolina Aquarium in Charleston, South Carolina. The aquarium also

attaches great importance to nature protection. In terms of the environment, they

possess the citizen science project, calling on eligible citizens to work with their

researchers to solve important environmental problems. People know the seriousness

of environmental problems and the solutions, and they can also mobilize people to

participate in actions to protect nature. In terms of consumption, the aquarium calls on

people to reduce the amount of plastic used in the consumer chain and Support local

fisheries and consumption of seafood caught in a responsible manner. Reducing the

use of plastic bags is to reduce plastic pollution, which is of great significance to nature.

The degradation time of plastic is very long so that reducing the use of plastic can

reduce the pressure on the natural environment. Supporting fisheries and seafood

consumption is to reduce the conflict between man and nature. Poaching is not limited

to land, but the ocean also exists. One of them is to narrow the gap between fishing

nets to catch more fish and seafood, but this can lead to the destruction or

endangerment of marine life groups. The last is to protect marine life. The aquarium is

committed to Rescue Marine life and helping them regain their health before being

released back to the ocean. I have been insisting on this matter for 17 years. In terms of

protecting nature, South Carolina Aquarium and Glengoyne Distillery are the same.

Tenerife is the largest of Spain’s eight islands in the Canary Islands in the Atlantic

Ocean near the African coast. Gemma botanical garden is also located in Tenerife.

Around the local pyramid, there is an ethnographic park surrounding the pyramid. In

building the ethnographic Park, a broad local and local botanical garden has been built,

and this botanical garden is now the Gema botanical garden. The existence of the

botanical garden highlights the local environment. The botanical garden forms a sharp

contrast with the surrounding environment, which makes tourists aware of the local

environmental problems and the importance of the environment. The botanical garden

also makes tourists mainly aware of these problems through plants. In the garden, to

reduce pollution, the botanical garden has a circulation system composed of hydraulic

plants and aquatic animals. This circulation reduces some resource consumption of the

botanical garden and avoids some pollution. The existence of botanical gardens is a

sign of environmental protection. They reduce the consumption of materials

independently, which is also a contribution to nature protection. Tenerife has a series of

services that focus on the environment: organic farms, natural activities, etc. and both

buildings and roads have passed environmental certification. Therefore, nature

conservation is valued all over the world.

The harmful impact of tourism can destroy the natural environment when the

negative impacts on the environment are sufficiently intensive and extensive. Such as

damaging biodiversity of particular areas which includes holiday retreats, clearing of

vegetation for constructing resorts and hotels or other tourism facilities, and also many

rare species have been brought to the verge of disappearance due to non-tourism

nuisance which are directly related to tourism. Habitat devastation brought by

unrestrained and ill planned tourism is the prime cause of extinction of species which

eventually destroy the natural balance, but destruction of biodiversity can have far

reaching effects than this. Another negative impact is the depletion of natural resources

like water, land and resources like food, energy or raw materials etc. which are already

in short supply. Degradation of land resources like wood or plantations is another

example of the negative impacts of tourism on the natural environment. Solid waste

littering is more common in the case of trekking, rock climbing or hiking tourists.

Tourism also pollutes the tourism sites with noise and air pollution, problems are

more compounded in countries or regions which lack or do not have the ability to

effectively treat such forms of pollutants generated from tourism activities. Tourism

development is more or less responsible for most of the harmful impacts that tourism

has on the natural environment. The cutting down of forested areas, changing the

landscape etc all have negative impacts on the ecological balance of the tourism

destination, whereas levels of impact may vary from site to site, but the negative

impacts of tourism on the environment cannot be ignored. The negative impacts are

intensely visible in ecologically fragile environments.

Whether from generating a new site or a heritage site used for different

prospective, somehow environment is getting a hard time by this. By pollution, numbers

of persons using limited resources, behavior of tourists while on holidays and so on are

some of the causes which directly or indirectly affects environment. It may include both

physical and cultural aspects. Unless managing at all level it is difficult to provide

specific consideration to each resource and this is how this becomes a negative aspect

towards tourism, environment has to pay such cost by loss to the natural settings to

beaches, coral reefs or heritage sites.

Effluence caused by tourism main concerns faced by tourism trade today. The

sewage waste from tourist resorts is drained into the rivers causing pollution in the river

water and eventually to sea bed, it highly affects marine life. Extreme use of natural

resources such as fossil fuel to generate energy for tourist activity, the activities of

overfishing, unnecessary use of groundwater resources, are only a few of problems

which are created by the tourism industry which in turn causes the reduction of the

resource.

As tourism grows, it also gives hands to increased littering, various forms of

pollution e.g. noise, water, air. Sewage and waste got increased sometimes to

uncontrollable levels. Alongside the need for transportation gets high and the number of

vehicles produces numerous gases and noise in air. In areas where resources are

limited, tourism develops a sense of competition, leading to all sorts of degradation.

Such harmful impacts are majorly brought by poor management or lack of proper

conservation mechanisms in place. However, with all these harmful effects, the

environment is also gaining the optimistic outcome of tourism. Tourism is moving

towards a sustainable side by helping and preserving the natural resources for the

future generation. Various nations and its conservative organizations are implementing

strict plans for conserving their flora and fauna and protecting their natural resources.

We should not only see the dark side of the moon if tourism has its costs, its pays

back as well. As tourism grows it definitely encourages several other industries to rise

side by side. Whenever a destination is selected to develop as a tourism destination,

government and planning sources put efforts for the regeneration of the place. It

consists of revitalization of an area or a site and beautifies the local environment. Thus,

this process brings new colors to the site. Any vital site when comes under tourism

perspective, its natural resources get special attention from the managing bodies,

whereas educated tourism developers know the value of a natural resource and

keeping this in mind they prevent any misuse or damage to it.

Different regions and scenic spots use their methods to protect nature, including

but not limited to planting plants, protecting the environment, and protecting living

things. These are all needed for responsible tourism, developing tourism by protecting

the local environment and biodiversity. Responsible tourism has created an environment

for the local area, protected local culture and employment opportunities, and the tourism

industry has also received local support. Therefore, responsible tourism is an important

direction for the development of tourism.
