Consider the following scenario:

Lemon Valley is a small suburban community. Several community members have expressed concerns about the lack of places to walk in the city. Sidewalks are lacking or broken in many places, and there are only a few paths and trails in the local parks. These are also in need of repair and updating with things like streetlights and fitness equipment. The city council has this issue on their agenda for the next meeting.

 To prepare.

  • Review the Lemon Valley scenario and the issues that should be presented to city council for consideration.

In the scenario regarding Lemon Valley and their advocacy efforts to expand walking trails and add sidewalks, there are additional things to consider besides just gaining approvals. Funding, for example, is often a challenging hurdle to overcome, especially since community funds are budgeted out sparingly to avoid raising taxes and such.

Part 1: Infographic

  • Prepare an infographic (figure/diagram/model) showing the Diffusion of Innovation Theory used to request funding for the Lemon Valley Walkability project.
  • Your infographic (figure/diagram) should be 1–2 pages long.
